Archival Anthology 1: Navigating Alchemy, History and the Photographic Image | Photographic Print | 57” x 18” | 2021
The work is an exploration of material and objects expanding out of a photo taken at the Rann of Kutch in the 1950s. A region at the border between India and Pakistan, the land with its salt marshes, fauna and prehistoric fossil records provide a space for political and social overlaps. A simple hunting scene expands outward, spanning time, space and material. The objects intertwine ideas of materiality, alchemy, tactility in a post-colonial setting. The image explores how my family history is embedded into the socio-political and geological landscape and simple moments in history have long reaching impacts.
